Associate Principal Trumpet, Los Angeles Philharmonic
I recently purchased a Sparx 2B from Ted. It is the best cornet mouthpiece I have ever tried. It’s got great balance – lay back on it and it gives you that nice traditional British cornet sound. Get on it and it has enough spark (or should I say sparx) to get from the back of the orchestra to the back of the hall. It seems to have smoothed out some of the “problem areas” that my old mouthpiece had, which I had wrongly attributed to the horn.
The workmanship on these pieces is perfect – very high quality. Ted was great to work with – two days after I spoke with him, there were two Sparx mouthpieces on my doorstep to try. He was very helpful in determining what would probably work best for me, with an obvious wealth of knowledge about mouthpiece design.
